Kath is one of our December brides who booked us through our online system so I haven’t personally met her but during our prep call, Sam and Kath’s love story is one that is definitely worth telling. Kath at 16 was then part of a choir at their church. She was singing during worship when Sam who was 20 first noticed her.
“That time medyo napapansin ko din sya, but a relationship was out of my mind pa nung time na yon…” – Kath Sam got Kath’s number from one of their church mates and they began texting.
Kath even confessed how weird that made her feel as she’s not used to that kind of attention. Fast forward to 3 mos, Sam asked her to finally meet up. On their first date (yes first date!) Sam popped the question – “Will you be my girlfriend?”
“Hindi ko sya sinagot formally talaga promise, pero somehow it felt natural, basta naging kami kahit hindi ko sya sinasagot ?” And that same day was the day they considered as their official date! They were together for more than 8 years. It was not blissful but they definitely had so much fun together. Everything was almost perfect and everyone around them are just waiting for them to get married however as they began planning their wedding back in 2015, everything went downhill. The happy smiles were replaced by frowns, the laughters were defeated by arguments and their strong love for each other was questioned by doubts. It left them both shattered. Sam eventually moved on with a new love interest which deeply hurt Kathleen.
“I was a walking zombie for all of 2015 and 2016. Parang maiiyak ako kapag naalala ko yung times na yun hahaha. Then 2017, I said screw it, there’s still so much in store for me. Naging genuinely happy na lang ako for him as in walang bitterness.” As soon as she learned to forgive Sam, she finally found peace in her heart which made her concentrate on herself this time. And on a silly twist of fate, they reconnected early 2018! I asked Kath why she chose to forgive Sam and let him in again despite the pain that he caused and her reply moved me: “hindi ko rin alam, hahahaha. siguro kasi i have seen a side of him na hindi nakikita ng iba. i understood where he was coming from. nakafocus kasi sila on how he left me, i guess i knew deep down that he really loved me and he just made some terrible decisions. na-infatuate kasi sya dun sa isa dahil bago, and now he realizes daw that passion is cheap, it’s commitment and compatibility that is rare. siguro naadmire ko din sa kanya na kahit alam nya ang magiging reaction ng mga tao if he attempts to come back to my life, push pa din nya and I know sam, for the past 3 years iwas na iwas sya sa buong family namin because he felt so bad about letting us down. sobrang hiya nya sa parents ko. despite his fears, he was determined to give it another shot at hindi sya nagpatinag”
And the rest is history!
